Our Adoption Process
At Sand Mountain Maine Coon, our adoption process is designed to be transparent, fair, and supportive, ensuring the best experience for both our kittens and their future families.
Step 1: Application & Approval
All prospective families must complete a kitten application. Once your application has been reviewed and approved, the breeder will contact you directly to discuss next steps. Not every application will be approved. It is important that we match the right families with the right kittens to ensure success.
As of December 2025 kittens are $2500-this is subject to change at anytime. Current price will always be stated in the contract you recieve upon kitten selection.
Step 2: Paid Waitlist
After approval, families may join our paid waitlist.
- The waitlist fee is $250, which is half of the required $500 deposit
- This fee is non-refundable
- Waitlist placement is determined by the order the fee is received
- Joining the paid waitlist secures your place when kittens become available
Families have up to two (2) years from the date the waitlist fee is received to select a kitten.
If a family continues to pass on available kittens for two years from the date fee is sent, the waitlist fee will be forfeited.
Step 3: Kitten Selection
When kittens become available, they are first offered to families on the paid waitlist in the order deposits were received.
Once you notify the breeder that you wish to reserve a specific kitten:
- A contract will be sent
- The remaining $250 of the deposit is collected
Kittens are not officially reserved until the full $500 deposit has been received.
Families may not swap their reserved kitten for another.
Step 4: Updates & Transparency
After reservation, the breeder will provide regular updates on your kitten’s growth, personality, health, and milestones.
To ensure trust and peace of mind, we are happy to offer:
- FaceTime or video calls
- Access to veterinary records for your kitten
- Veterinary references
- Clear and reliable communication throughout the process
Step 5: Final Payment
The remaining balance must be paid in full by the scheduled spay/neuter date, typically when the kitten is 11–12 weeks old.
Failure to submit full payment by this date will result in:
- Forfeiture of the deposit and reservation
- The kitten being offered to the next family on the waitlist
In rare cases of extenuating circumstances, the breeder may make an exception at her discretion. However, it remains the buyer’s responsibility to ensure timely payment.

Step 6: Going-Home Care & Timeline
Kittens typically go home between 12–14 weeks of age and will have received:
- Two veterinary exams
- Deworming
- Fecal testing
- Two rounds of core vaccinations
- Microchipping
- Spay/neuter
- 30 days of free Trupanion health insurance
(Must be activated before pickup — no exceptions)
- One-year health guarantee against a genetic illness resulting in death

Delivery Options
At Sand Mountain Maine Coon, we want bringing your kitten home to be as smooth, safe, and stress-free as possible. We offer several delivery options and are happy to discuss which choice works best for your family.
Please note that all travel and delivery expenses are the responsibility of the buyer and must be discussed and agreed upon in advance. Any changes to delivery arrangements must be approved by both parties prior to travel.
VIP Deluxe Delivery
Our most comprehensive, all-inclusive option.
This service includes personal, hand-delivered transport of your kitten anywhere in the US. We will provide a quoted delivery fee and coordinate an in-cabin flight nanny to safely accompany your kitten from our care to yours.
Includes:
- In-cabin flight nanny
- En route photo updates
- Delivery to your nearest major airport
You Fly to Us
You may choose to purchase your own airline ticket and fly into a nearby Alabama airport. We will meet you at the airport and personally hand-deliver your kitten.
Additional fee: $50
We Drive to Meet You
We work with a trusted, experienced driver who will coordinate a halfway meeting location based on distance and logistics.

You Drive to Sand Mountain Maine Coon
Our preferred method.
You are welcome to drive to our cattery in Alabama to pick up your kitten in person. This allows you to meet us directly and provides a smooth, comfortable transition for your kitten.
Additional Information
If a kitten is held beyond the contracted go-home date, a $50 per week boarding fee will apply.
