Adoption Terms & Health Guarantee
At Sand Mountain Maine Coons, our goal is to raise healthy, well-socialized kittens and place them in loving, lifelong homes. The following is a summary of our policies and guarantees. A signed contract is required before any kitten leaves our home.
Reservation & Payment
- A $500 non-refundable reservation fee is required to hold a kitten and is applied toward the purchase price.
- Remaining balance is due prior to your kitten’s scheduled spay/neuter appointment.
- Failure to complete payment or arrange pickup may result in forfeiture of the reservation fee and the kitten being made available to another family.
Included With Every Kitten
- TICA registration
- Age-appropriate vaccinations
- Deworming and individual fecal PCR screening
- Microchip
- Spay or neuter before leaving (unless otherwise agreed)
- 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance (activation required)
Health Guarantee
- Kittens are guaranteed to be in good health at the time of pickup.
- Buyers must have their kitten examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of arrival. Failure to obtain a veterinary examination within this timeframe voids the health guarantee.
- A one-year congenital/genetic health guarantee is provided. In the unlikely event of death due to a documented congenital defect confirmed by veterinary records and necropsy, a replacement kitten of comparable value will be offered if available. No cash refunds are given.
- Because kittens are living creatures and are exposed to new environments after leaving our home, Sand Mountain Maine Coons is not responsible for parasites, viral illnesses, fungal infections, or other acquired conditions occurring after the initial 72-hour period. All kittens receive preventive care and individual fecal PCR testing prior to leaving our cattery.
Pet Homes
- Unless otherwise agreed in writing, kittens are sold as pets and are not intended for breeding.
- Declawing is strictly prohibited.
- Our kittens are to remain indoor companions and receive proper nutrition, veterinary care, and companionship.
Lifetime Commitment
We consider every Sand Mountain Maine Coon a lifelong responsibility. If you are ever unable to keep your cat, we ask that you contact us first. We maintain the right of first refusal and are always available to help ensure our cats are placed in safe, loving homes.
Please note that we do not offer refunds for returned cats or kittens. Should circumstances arise that prevent you from keeping your cat, we will gladly assist with rehoming or accept the cat back when possible, but all monies previously paid are non-refundable.
Transportation & Pickup
- Buyers are responsible for transportation costs when shipping or delivery is required.
- Pickup dates are arranged individually once the kitten is ready to leave.
- Boarding fees may apply if pickup is delayed without prior arrangements.
Important Notes
While we perform extensive health testing, genetic screening, and preventive care, no breeder can guarantee that a living animal will never experience illness. We strive to do everything within our control to provide healthy kittens and are committed to supporting our families throughout their cat’s lifetime.
This page is intended as a summary only. All buyers are required to review and sign our complete contract before taking their kitten home.
